Frequently asked questions

The questions we get asked every week — about standards, timing, leaks, pricing and what the warranty actually covers. If yours is not here, call the office and ask.

Standards & compliance

What is AS 3740 and why does it matter?

AS 3740 is the Australian Standard for waterproofing domestic internal wet areas. It sets out where membrane must be applied, how high it must go, how junctions and penetrations are detailed, and what substrates are acceptable. Building certifiers inspect against it, and insurers reference it when assessing water damage claims. Every internal wet area we seal is built to that standard, and external work follows AS 4654.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. Every wet area we complete receives a written compliance certificate identifying the address, the area sealed, the membrane system and batch used, the standard applied and the applicator licence number. It is emailed within one business day of completion along with the photo record.

Is waterproofing a licensed trade in Queensland?

Yes. Waterproofing work over a certain value requires a QBCC licence in the waterproofing class. HydroForce holds licence 15123456 and every applicator on our crews is trained and certified by the manufacturers of the systems we install. Ask any contractor for their licence number before they quote.

Who is responsible if the membrane fails?

We are. We do not subcontract membrane application, so there is no argument about who applied what. Our 7 year workmanship warranty covers our application, and the manufacturer product warranties sit behind the materials.

Timing & process

How long does a bathroom take?

A standard residential bathroom is prepped and coated in a single day. The membrane then needs 12 to 24 hours to cure depending on the system, humidity and airflow, so most jobs are tileable the following morning. We confirm the exact cure time on the day and mark it on the door.

When should I book relative to the tiler?

Book us as soon as your plumbing rough-in and sheeting are complete, and give at least one full day between our final coat and the tiler starting. If your programme is tight, tell us the tiling date up front and we will work backwards from it.

Can you work around other trades?

On commercial and multi-unit sites, yes — we stage works to your programme and can run after hours or weekends where access demands it. On a single residential wet area we need the room to ourselves during application and cure, because foot traffic through wet membrane is the fastest way to a failure.

What preparation do you need on site?

A swept, dry, debris-free substrate with sheeting fixed off, plumbing penetrations installed and set, working power and light, and ventilation. If trades have left the room rough we can prepare it, but that is quoted separately.

Leaks & existing problems

My shower is leaking — do I have to demolish it?

Not necessarily. A meaningful share of the leaks we investigate turn out to be a failed waste flange, a cracked grout line, a perished silicone bead or an unsealed penetration rather than a comprehensively failed membrane. We diagnose first with moisture mapping and controlled testing, then give you options ranked by cost and disruption. Full strip-out is the last resort, not the opening quote.

How do you find a leak without breaking anything?

Moisture meters and thermal imaging map where water is sitting behind surfaces, then controlled flood and spray testing isolates which fixture or junction is letting it through. In most cases we identify the source without removing a single tile.

Will you provide a report for insurance or strata?

Yes. We produce written reports with photo evidence, moisture readings and a clear statement of cause, formatted for insurers, body corporate committees and loss adjusters. That report is $540 and is commonly the document that resolves a disputed claim.

Is the inspection fee credited?

If you book the recommended repair with us, the leak investigation fee is credited in full against the repair invoice.

Pricing & warranty

What does the 7 year warranty cover?

Our workmanship — the application, detailing and integrity of the membrane we installed. It does not cover damage caused by structural movement beyond design tolerance, later trades penetrating the membrane, alterations by others, or failure of fixtures and plumbing we did not install. All of that is spelled out plainly in the written warranty document, not buried in fine print.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. We quote the wet area, not an hourly rate. Once the scope is agreed the price does not move unless you change the scope or we uncover a hidden substrate problem — and in that case we stop, show you and re-quote before continuing.

Do you charge for travel?

No call-out fee within Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, Ipswich, Moreton Bay or the Gold Coast. Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba jobs run on scheduled days at the same rates, so ask when the next run is.

Do you offer trade rates?

Yes. Builders and renovation companies with regular volume get standing rates, priority scheduling and 30 day terms. For developments of ten or more wet areas we tender a project rate.

How do I pay?

Residential jobs are invoiced on completion with EFT or card payment, no deposit required on standard bathrooms. Commercial contracts run on progress claims to agreed terms.
